Abstract
The aim of this research was to present and explain school principals' scenarios for setting up virtual laboratories based on artificial intelligence. The research was conducted using a multi-method approach (futures research of the type of scenario writing and grounded theory). The research field consisted of all professors in the fields of educational management and artificial intelligence technology and articles published in the period 2020-2026 for foreign articles and 2025 for Iranian articles. Purposive sampling was carried out to the extent of saturation and sufficiency of information, with 29 articles and 18 expert professors. The research tool included in-depth interviews and reading the text of the articles. Validation was carried out using a three-way method. In general, the results showed that the scenarios for setting up virtual laboratories based on artificial intelligence in schools are a 2×2 matrix: the first scenario is "digital advance", the second scenario is "gradual movement scenario", the third scenario is "technology suspension", and the fourth scenario is "low-cost innovation". Overall, the combination of these four scenarios shows that schools, depending on their level of digital readiness and resources, oscillate between accelerating technological transformation and gradually cautiously adopting AI-based virtual labs, and no single path dominates all environments.
