Abstract
Abstract The main purpose of this study is to explore and analyze the perspective, experiences, and challenges of history teachers regarding the utilization of digital technologies in the classroom. The study employed a qualitative research method with a descriptive-exploratory approach. The participants comprised 15 secondary school history teachers from Lorestan province during the 2024-2025 academic year, selected through purposive criterion-based sampling. Research data were collected using semi-structured interviews. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings of the study consist of five overarching themes and fourteen organizing themes. The overarching themes include (1) technologies used in history teaching, (2) the impact of technology on history teaching methods, (3) the impact of technology on student engagement and conceptual understanding, (4) challenges of using technology in history teaching, and (5) recommendations for improving the use of technology in history teaching. The results indicate that history teachers perceive technology as an opportunity to transition from the rote memorization of history to its comprehension and experiential learning. However, actualizing this significant potential is contingent upon addressing serious infrastructural challenges and investing substantially in the development of teachers' pedagogical competencies.
